今天能以洪都拉斯驻华大使的身份发言,并以一名科学家的视角来分享我多年来在生物学和医学领域的研究,实属荣幸。
首先,我要对本次论坛的组织者——世界贸易网点联盟以及所有相关机构表示诚挚的感谢,感谢他们将我们聚集在一起,讨论中医药的未来。这个论坛为我们提供了一个独特的机会,让我们探索传统医学在与现代科学进步结合时所蕴含的巨大潜力。
在我的研究生涯中,我见证了科学如何改变我们对人体的理解以及它自愈的能力。传统医学拥有几千年来关于植物和自然疗法的宝贵知识,是现代科学的重要资源。一个明显的例子是美洲原住民传统上使用的金鸡纳树皮,后来从中提取了奎宁,这是一种在抗疟疾斗争中至关重要的化合物。另一个重要的案例是乙酰水杨酸,最初从白柳树皮中发现的水杨酸被提取并转化为我们熟知的阿司匹林,这种药物因其抗炎、镇痛和解热的特性,成为世界上使用最广泛的药物之一,而我本人也参与了这项工作。
这些例子说明了植物中的活性成分一旦被分离并经过科学研究,就能为健康挑战提供创新和有效的解决方案。中医药以其整体观念和对植物及天然物质治疗作用的深刻理解,在继续为医学科学做出重大贡献方面拥有独特优势。中国在使用药用植物方面积累的丰富经验,对科学家们来说是取之不尽的灵感源泉。
一个最近的例子是青蒿素,提取自已经使用了两千多年的植物青蒿,是一种抗疟疾的有效药物。
作为一名科学家,我对中国近年来将传统知识与现代科学方法相结合的努力深感钦佩,这种协同作用惠及了数百万人。中国在研究与开发方面的进步,正在提升中医药的基本原理,使古老的治疗方法成为应对当代健康问题的现代且有效的解决方案。
我的生物学研究工作一直致力于揭示生物过程背后的机制,以改善人类健康。在我的职业生涯中,我有幸为我们对人体如何调节诸如血液流动和免疫反应等基本功能的理解做出贡献。我在中国提升中医药的努力中看到了同样的知识追求,将现代尖端科学技术应用于传统医学的提升。
我坚信,通过将中医药的古老智慧与科学进步相结合,我们能够打开改善全球健康和应对公共卫生挑战的新大门。洪都拉斯和中国,两国都拥有丰富的生物多样性和师承教育,能够为这一事业贡献许多力量。
最后,我再次对组织者的辛勤付出表示衷心的感谢,感谢他们为推动这一重要对话做出的努力。能够受邀参加此次论坛,我深感荣幸,并感谢有机会为这项共同的事业——人类福祉——贡献力量。

Ladies, and gentlemen:
It is an honor to address you today, not only as the Ambassador of Honduras to China but also from the perspective of a scientist, having dedicated much of my career to the study of biology and medicine.
I would like to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to the organizers of this forum, the World Trade Point Federation and all the relevant organizations, for bringing us together for such an important discussion on the future of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This forum provides a unique opportunity to explore the immense potential that traditional medicine holds when combined with modern scientifi advances.
Throughout my research career, I have witnessed how science can transform our understanding of the human body and its ability to heal.
These examples illustrate how the active principles in plants, once isolated and scientifically studied, can offer innovative and effective solutions to health challenges. TCM, with its holistic approach and profound understanding of the healing properties of plants and natural substances, is uniquely positioned to continue making significant contributions to medical science. The vast experience China has accumulated in using medicinal plants remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration for scientists.
A more recent example is the of the antimalarial, qing hosu, Artemisin, extracted from the plant Artemisia annua, after 2000 year in medical use.
As a scientist, I greatly admire the efforts that China has made in recent years to combine traditional knowledge with modern scientific approaches, fostering a synergy that benefits millions of people. China's advances in research and development (R&D) are enhancing the principles of TCM, allowing age-old treatments to become modern and effective solutions to contemporary health problems.
My own work in biology has been driven by a desire to uncover the mechanisms behind biological processes to improve human health.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of contributing to our understanding of how the human body regulates essential functions such as blood flow and the immune response. It is this same passion for knowledge that I see reflected in China’s efforts to elevate Traditional Medicine by applying cutting-edge science and technology.
I am convinced that by combining the ancient wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine with scientific advances, we can open new doors to improving global health and tackling public health challenges. Honduras and China, with their respective riches in biodiversity and ancestral knowledge, have much to contribute to this cause.
Once again, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the organizers for their dedication to promoting this vital dialogue. It is a privilege to have been invited to his forum, and I deeply appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this joint effort for the well-being of humanity.
